Nothing wakes
you up faster than the sound of water dripping on your side of the bed at 3
A.M.
A wet and
windy December storm blew across the state last night dropping a blanket of
snow atop the mountain peaks in the high country and pouring waves of rain over
the flat stretches of Arizona desert where we’ve planted our 8 round rubber RV
roots for a spell.
What do you
get when you mix buckets of rain, gusty winds and a diesel pusher’s flat roof
that LOOKS like its water tight? Let’s
just say I’ve been officially baptized in the name of the Gods who rule
full-time RV’ers. I’m goin’ to RV heaven
for sure cuz all my sins were washed away as of 3 A.M. this morning!
Well, in
reality it wasn’t that bad. Hardly
enough to get a hand towel wet while dripping through a small round ceiling accent
light, but it freaked me out all the same.
Had half-awake (or would it be half-asleep?) visions of the roof caving
in and being swept away into the cold wet dark night never to see sunlight or
feel warmth again I guess.
No more Russell
Stover chocolates before bed for me!
It did warrant
a trip to the RV section of the local Ace Hardware to investigate what method
of sealant would be a practical, effective and affordable quick fix until the
roof dries and a major caulking day can be scheduled.
After a roof
walk-about a small hole where a screw or some other such fastener once was
located (but for some reason had been removed and not replaced) was found above
the bedroom and sealed. All else seemed
ship shape. Caulk and sealant tape have
been ordered from amazon.com.
Good job
David!
I’ve lived in
an RV before and I do know it’s one fix-it job after another. That’s just the way it is. It’s the price to be paid for nurturing your gypsy
side. A home on wheels is always rebelling
in one way or another. Kind of like the
folks driving her ……
Instead of
crying over a new RV with a weepy bedroom roof I made a crock pot full of
chili, watched a movie and did a load of laundry.
And then…. the
day finished in a brilliant blaze of glory!
Just before
sunset the sun exploded into view filling the Western skies with hot pinks and florescent-like
blues. The clouds parted, a rainbow
arched through the Northern sky and simultaneously the sunlight targeted a
direct hit on the mountains that fill our Northern and Eastern horizons spotlighting
the snow like icing on jagged layers of cake.
I hardly knew
which direction to look for fear I’d miss a moment of this 360 degree Mother
Nature Masterpiece.
A vivid
reminder that just because the day starts out poopy doesn’t mean you have to
swim in a cesspool all day and a good movie, bowl of homemade chili and clean
laundry can kick start a miraculous days end.
Simple Is …
As Simple Does
Happy Trails ….
